About this blog

In this blog I describe my personal experiences with selected iPhone Apps. I will not repeat a feature list, or copy screenshots or text from elsewhere - I suppose that my readers will find the description in the Appstore (mostly I will add a link to the Appstore to my posts), and are interested in user experiences before they decide whether they should buy or not.

Documents To Go: just released!

[Appstore link]

Just released: Documents To Go for the iPhone. Special introduction offer: only 4.99$ or 5.50 CHF (free updates).

A special version for Microsoft exchange users is also avaliable for a 9.99$.

Files can be synchronized with the desktop computer using a dedicated desktop companion program (Mac OS and Windows). However, this desktop application cannot be found easily on the datawiz homepage. Once the iPhone App is installed on the iPhone, one must register at Datawiz (by attempting to access the "Desktop Files". Datawiz will then send a download link.

The next step is to pair the desktop app to the iPhone app. Once that is accomplished, folders to be sync'ed can be configured, and the syncing starts.

A first test of features gave rather mixed results. Excel files can (currently) only be viewed, not edited. Date format, value-dependend cell coloring, and diagrams are either not displyed, or not displayed properly.

Pressing the "Edit" button in the file list view allows only to delete files, but there is not "cancel" option - the app gets stuck here unless one actually deletes files. Powerpoint presentations are not displayed slide by slide (like photos), but like a book which can be scrolled down gradually, allowing even small fractions of one slide to be scrolled down - not very useful for slides.

Regarding the still moderate price (and free upgrades), this impression may be just OK, but this is for sure not a full office suite on the iPhone.
